The Coward and the Bully

The Coward and the Bully

Watching Chris Christie standing there behind Donald Trump last night as Trump arrogantly proclaimed victory in the primary results kind of made me shudder with fear and perplexity. Christie was standing there attentively hanging on every word the Donald had to say, hoping he could be a part of any potential victory and positioning himself for a future kingship of the country.

The TV commentator called Christie a surrogate. To me he looked more like an enforcer, a body guard, a hit man – trying to wring some benefit out of the popularity of this miscarriage of all presidential candidates.

Imagine our country with Trump spreading vitriol against every member of Congress and every leader in the world and demanding that his orders be followed or else. Imagine Christie grabbing everyone who disagreed by the shirt and slamming them against the wall. Imagine Christie shutting down all of the airports and all of the railroads until we all submit to the Donald’s orders. Imagine the Donald negotiating with any of the world leaders with his ridiculous demands, while they laugh at his childish idiocy and idle threats.

Of course, looking at it another way, Trump and Christie are a perfect match. They both have falsely inflated egos, laughable arrogance, utter disregard for anyone other than themselves, and willingness to step on anyone in their path to success. They both have childish anger, intolerance for opposing views, inherent need for retaliatory and vengeful actions, and an unacceptable understanding of our interaction with other countries. They don’t know where the other countries are, who leads them, or our relationships with them. Trump is someone who needs bullies. He is a coward who incessantly insults others and has body guards following him constantly. Christie is a bully. He is twice the size of anyone else in the room and loves to shove his weight around. A marriage made in heaven.

If we look at the offerings of the Republican Party, the picture is pretty clear – the Republican Party is about done for. They offer us Donald Trump, a rich kid pampered and financed by his father, a pumped-up egotist who scammed several banks and other investors while making his fortune, started a gambling casino business, went public with it and unloaded it to unsuspecting investors before it became worthless, and then invested the proceeds in New York real estate. He started Trump University and scammed many of those who aspired to be like him but never made it. He wants to deport all illegal immigrants, build a wall on our border with Mexico, ban all Muslims from the country, etc. etc. etc. – and make America great again.

And the Republicans offer us Ted Cruz, the son of Cuban immigrants, the guy that no one seems to like, who thumps on the Bible while telling us how he is going to reduce the size of government, balance the budget, and take our government back.

And they offer us Marco Rubio, the son of Cuban immigrants, the guy who wants to shrink our government, balance the budget, and deport all illegal immigrants (except any of his own relatives).

It seems apparent that Donald Trump will be the Republican candidate for president. This sounds great to me. He thinks they are after him now? He ain’t seen nothing yet. Wait until those who oppose him put him on display for the scam artist and childish egotist that he is. And the best part of it is that he may well take many of the other Republican candidates on the ballot down the tube with him. That is what the party should be worried about and that is what the Democrats may be reveling about.

Donald Trump way bring about a better government, a fairer government, less inequality, a more sound financial system, improvements in education, improvements in healthcare, improvements in our infrastructure, and a more sustainable environment.

And he may do it without even knowing it or wanting it. He may do it by helping us elect leaders who are ready, willing, and able to do all of the above. And they may survive as a progressive government for many years to come. All because of Donald Trump. Maybe he is a blessing in disguise.

Like John Lennon sings to us: “This may only be a dream”, but I believe it. And as the song goes “I’m not the only one.

Think about it!
